Skillup Program

Configuring and Securing Networks

This course is designed to provide learners with in-depth knowledge and practical skills in securing modern network infrastructures. Covering both foundational concepts and advanced threat mitigation strategies, the course focuses on real-world security challenges, attack vectors, prevention techniques, and countermeasures applicable across wired, wireless, and cloud-based environments. Students will explore hands-on tools, protocols, and frameworks to build robust and secure networks while staying updated with contemporary threats like malware, data breaches, and DDoS attacks.

Through practical exercises, labs, and analysis tools such as Wireshark, Aircrack-ng, and Burp Suite, learners will gain competence in packet inspection, firewall configuration, wireless network penetration testing, and securing mobile and cloud environments. Emphasis is also placed on critical areas such as identity access management, data loss prevention, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and the secure design of application and operating system environments.

Configuring and Securing Networks

Course Overview

The Configuring and Securing Networks course provides a comprehensive exploration of modern network security principles, threats, and defense strategies. It is designed to equip learners with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in securing various types of networks, including wired, wireless, and cloud environments. The course begins by introducing key network threats such as DDoS attacks, man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks, and packet analysis, and then progresses into practical prevention techniques using tools like Aircrack-ng, Airodump, and Reaver. Students will gain a strong understanding of wireless security protocols (WEP, WPA/WPA2), identity and access management (IAM), multi-factor authentication, and antivirus mechanisms. Additional focus is placed on securing email communications, managing mobile device vulnerabilities, and configuring firewalls and intrusion prevention systems. Learners will also delve into packet analysis using Wireshark, understand security risks at each layer of the OSI and TCP/IP models, and explore encrypted communication protocols such as SSL/TLS. The course concludes with a detailed study of countermeasures, ranging from hardware and behavioral solutions to software-based defenses across different layers of the network stack. By the end of the course, students will be well-prepared to analyze, secure, and manage network infrastructures effectively against contemporary cyber threats.

Skills you will learn

Recall basic concepts related to network security, wireless security, access control, antivirus and antimalware software, and cloud security

Demonstrate the key concepts of Data loss prevention, Email security, Firewalls and Mobile device security.

Apply skills to use Wireshark for packet investigation to troubleshoot network issues and assess security risks, leveraging insights into OSI and TCP/IP models. Configure and review protocols like HTTP/HTTPS and SSL/TLS to enhance network security and address real-world problems.
